Day 7 - Walk This Way

Chauffailles, the village near our little hamlet, seems to be a bit of a local tourist destination. One of its attractions are the local walking rails, so this morning we headed off on walk #1 - a 9km trip through the local mountains. In the end it was a three and a half hour walk in 30 degree heat as we trekked through forests, up steep hills and only occasionally downhill pathways. The plus side was that there were postcard views at each turn, old French farmhouses and even a hemitage and a viaduct. It was great to be out in the fresh air and really getting into the French countryside. But at the end we were buggered. We had enough energy to go into the Patisserie to buy some lunch, and come home to bread, cheese, and gateaux. An afternoon sleep followed, then David & I drove back into town to get petrol, some odd shopping and buying a mobile phone after having no end of trouble trying to recharge the card we had.Our final dinner was the usual bread and cheese entree, the lasagne and herbed potatoes that Justine prepared with fresh herbs growing outside the front door of the cottage. To celebrate our French stay David had bought a bottle of French champagne, which we duly drank after a bottle of local chardonnay.Tomorrow we head off to Fribourg in Switzeralnd : a trip that hopefully shouldn't be too long and where internet access awaits at the end again.
