It was time to leave Casperia and start our gradual return from Italy to France and our eventual transition from the non english speaking continent to Ireland and Great Britain, but not before we stayed overnight at a B&B in the vicinity of Lucca. Our four hour trip turned into five hour trip with all in the party stumped by a map to our B&B that was scant in detail and incorrect in other parts with also no street name offered and our host when phoned also offered no advice as to how to find his place but only a time that we should arrive. This of course had to be after siesta. Somehow with more good luck than planning we found the accommodation. Our host thought it was all very funny, though some in out party thought it may be funnier if some sort of bodily harm were to occur to him. (There ws something Basil Faulty about this stay with a goofy host, a storm overnight, cars racing past all night, and then finally when we woke up all the power was out and there was also no water available). But back to our afternooon,we set off
to explore Lucca, a walled town that consisted of many piazza's ,churches, an old Roman ampitheatre and the home of the composer Puccini. It was a great walk around with a trip up a campinile which had holm trees growing up the top of the viewing platform which offered a shady place for climbers to enjoy their view in some sort of comfort. After a short trip back to the B&B to refresh we went back to Lucca for an evening meal of local cuisine which was enjoyed by all - this was our last meal in Italy, the food is something we will miss when we leave the continent but all good things must come to an end.
