Day 30 : The Streets Of London (24/7/09)

We awoke to cloud and drizzle. After breakfast we separated - Juss going to Leicester Square to get tickets for a show for the night for her and Dave; while we remaining three went off to Westminster Abbey - scene of Coronations, Royal Weddings and history for nearly 1000 years. We did our audio guide and had a good look around all the nooks and crannies, spending the whole morning there. In the meantime Juss had got cut-price tickets for "Chicago" for the evening for her and Dave, and had then explored the streets & shops. We all met up at Trafalgar Square for lunch, and after the usual look-around settled on an Indian Restaurant - something we had planned to do while in London. What followed was rwo courses of very tasty food washed down wih Indian beer(for the boys). It certainly whetted our appetite for more Indian while in England. We then split for the afternoon - the boys going to the Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum, and the girls to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Both sites had displays well worth seeing ; the Cabinet War Rooms, underground in the City where Chrurchill and his war cabinet directed the war effort, were remarkably preserved and fascinating to see. Then we all met up again at Harrods - buying some small souveneirs, but on the whole mainly just window shopping.
That evening, David & Juss enjoyed a productions of "Chicago" in one of the more intimate West End theatres and then had dinner. Carmel and I were fortunate to catch up wih relatives I hadn't seen since leaving England as a child. My cousin Christine had flown down from Aberdeen in Scotland, picked up her Mum - my aunty Marjorie - and was also accompanied by her son Andy and his fiance Aimee. We all got to know each other and swapped news over drinks and then a great meal. We were thrilled that they had taken the time and effort to come into Londonn to se us, and it ws a really good night.
