The vagaries of navigational devices ! They find the quickest route between two points, but have trouble differentiating road types. We got caught coming home to Chauffailles in France being directed by the TomTom along narrow winding country roads. Today we went off road when the final stage of the trip took a literal turn for the worse. We found out how narrow Italian roads can be, and that even local bush tracks are on the map as we went uphill on a goat track. Eventually we arrived, and found we were in a wonderful villa with sweeping views of Florence and the Tuscan hills. The stairs have marble figures, our room a four poster bed, and a garden outside to relax in as we take in the views. Having settled in, we did our usual explore of the city - driving back into Florence and walking around. We took in the sights and walked to the Boboli & Bardini Gardens which have an elevated view of the city. Having climbed our
customary steps to see the views, we grabbed a coffee, then went back into town for another authentic Italian meal in a local restaurant. Then - right on dusk - we had the trip home ; again, we had trouble after missing a turn and getting lost again on the winding hill roads. But we found our way home, settled our nerves with a bottle of Chianti and drifted off to the sounds of the city below.
