Today was a visit to Warwick Castle which proved that the variety of castles that you encounter from the continent to Ireland to England makes each visit worthwhile as they all have features and a history of their own. In the late afternoon a visit to Charlecote House showed how the very well off people lived. The house was pure luxury and had paintings by Gainsborough, however as were advised by the staff of the Heritage Council the owner in 1946 could not afford the upkeep of the property and sold it to the Heritage Council, though they still rent a wing of the house and own some of the paintings. It seems they owned the Gainsboroughs but over the years have had to top up their funds and have sold some off to other collectors. This annoys the Heritage Council as they have no control over the art that is sold and the
n need to commision copies to be made to be hung. Aquick trip to Leamington Royal Spa for tea displayed splendid gardens and streets lined with flower pots on lamp posts and hung out the front of buildings, all very impressive. The venue chosen for tea the Regent Hotel gave all of us a laugh as the waitress provided a list of what was not available from the menu which was more than half of the total menu. Our next day is planned for the Cotswolds
