Being lunch time already, they took us to a nearby restaurant for a buffet lunch, then off we went to the famous Botanical Gardens of Kandy for a tour. There are acres of trees, plants - especially orchids - and paths that meander though. A huge clap of thunder signalled approaching rain, and we made it to the car to our final hotel in the hills. It was still muggy enough for a swim once we were settled in, and then we enjoyed a meal of chicken and vegetable curries from the kitchen, with some drinks to help wash it down. Quite tired despite the day not being too active, we headed off to bed hoping the weather would be better the next day.

SL 12 Candy Day 35
The weather had improved when we got up this morning, with a lot less of the mist and cloud covering the peaks. We enjoyed another great breakfast of fruit, egg hoppers with curry, and washed down with tea. Then off we headed to the train station for the four hour trip through the hills and tea country toward Kandy. The British created all the rail lines when they were developing the country, and a lot of the infrastructure is still in place. The trip was great, with scenic views of waterfalls and lush country you couldn't see from the road. We travelled in the first class carriage : but all that meant was that you were guaranteed a seat and there weren't passengers standing in the aisles. The time passed quickly, and soon we were getting off at Peradeniya and being met by our drivers.
