Listen To What The Man Said (16/06/11)
Today dawned a lot quieter, with the demonstrations over for now - although the protestors remain camped in Syntagma Square. It was the first day proper of the IAPD conference. Lectures ranged from very good (the trauma symposium) to very strange (a paper on assessing caries risk by reading fingerprints). There are a few Australians here that we know so we have been catching up to say hello at the breaks, as well as meeting new people. The lectures didn't finish until 6pm tonight, so after returning back to our hotel and waiting out the now customary shower of rain, we ventured out in search of a new place
for dinner. We found a little restaurant specialising in food from Crete. We had fava beans with salted sardines ; Cretan Pies (goat cheese and mint) ; and slow grilled pork with a sort of stuffing of nuts / eggplant / zucchini and other stuff. It was helped along with a glass of the house white, and then to finish a complimentary glass of raki, the Cretan "firewater" made from distilled grapeskin. Very reminiscent of the Irish Potcheen. Tomorrow is another full day of lectures, then hopefully dinner on Lycabettus Hill overlooking the lights of Athens.

Did the fava beans come with A NICE CHIANTI? (I just rewatched Silence of the Lambs)
