I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight (17/06/11)

Another day of lectures of varying interest. Tonight we booked a posh restaurant, having spent all the trip so far in Tavernas or suburban cafe / restaurants. As we are staying at the foot of Lycabettus Hill, we decided to try the restaurant at the top, as recommended by our walking tour guide last week. We knew the views from the top were good, but to sit outside at the resaurant and spend your meal looking down at the lights of the Acropolis and the rest of Athens was simply amazing. The meal was excellent : a (complimentary) cold tomato soup - gespacio - then entrees of mushrooms with tomato for me and roccolu salad with strawberry dressing for Carmel. Mains were a slow cooked lamb hock in beer , honey and Thyme with pearl vegetables for me ; and a marinated chicken breasts with crumbed potatoes for Carmel. Some nice Greek wine was sampled during the meal, of course; including a very nice red. Dessert followed to round off an unforgettable evening. The old Olympic stadium has a light show on at nights which added to the backdrop. Tommorrow is our last day in Athens, and then on to Santorini !
