Follow The Drinking Gourd - Day 7
We had the luxury of not having to sing today, but we had to have our luggage down for the coach before 8.00am as today we have to leave the beautiful Hotel Muehlgarten and the Alpine surrounds and head off for our next destination. The blue skies had turned to grey - it had rained quite heavily yesterday evening and night - and the mist and cloud hung over the mountains. Our first stop was Sesto Hall for the Farewell Party , but we arrived in pouring rain to a hall that was already overfilled. Fortunately , while we stayed on the bus, John & Greg ventured inside and we were second choir to receive our ornate Certificate of Participation so we immediately set off to the town for a coffee break, then back onto the coach for our trip to Salzburg - stopping in Lienze in the south of Austria for lunch and refreshments.
We arrived at our hotel at 6.15 and settled in. The hotel has seen better days but should be fine for the limited time we will be spending in it. The night had no commitments so we walked to the Augustine beer hall where we had spent an enjoyable afternoon with David and Justine on our last trip to Salzburg. This time was a bit rowdier given there were around thirty of us initially, but by closing time we had reduced to about eight people and three Italians who had joined our table. The combination of steins of beer and choristers led to a few rousing verses of Waltzing Matilda - so the Italians had joined us for a further singalong. This was cut short by the arrival of closing time and as last people out we had to exit through the back door. We managed the kilometre walk back to the hotel without getting lost and had few nightcaps to round off the night. We were thrilled to see our MD Ian and his wife Judith arrive after their long flight from Perth to Vienna then Salzburg. Our touring party is now complete.
