I Can Hear Music

We are getting used to finding our way around Vienna now, and today used both the underground and the tram system. Public transport is very well organised and frequent here, and is free with our Vienna card - but even so we are still doing a lot of walking too. We found out yesterday that our visit coincides with a display of photographs by Linda McCartney at one of the local museums, that also has a permanent display of the artwork and other items from a Viennese artist Hundertwasser. So we made our way out there this morning and enjoyed both exhibitions, but especially the McCartney photos that had a lot of candid shots of the Beatles and other sixties musical legends, as well as family shots. We then returned to central Vienna for lunch - with the happy memories of cheap and easy lunches in Italy now distant memories -  and had a look around St Stephen's Cathedral and St Peter's Church. We were lucky to find a free organ recital at St Peter's, so we stayed there for that and then headed back into the shopping precinct. We have very little clean clothes left, and faced with the choice of finding a laundromat, paying exorbitant  laundry prices at the hotel or just buying a couple of shirts each and some socks we settled for the latter. We had to bypass all the high fashion stores - Gucci, Lacoste, Dolce & Gabbana etc - but managed to find a store similar to our Myers and now have something clean to wear for the next few days. Tonight we are going to a string ensemble concert in another church in the city after booking tickets for the performance last night. Supper in the city should round off a good day; then off to Schonbrunn Palace tomorrow.
