The Winner Takes It All

So today was the first day of the Masters Regatta. As suspected, the organisation was not ideal  : The Bunbury "A Team"  won their heat in the second race of the day, but then Carmel's Four that was meant to race at 8.10 am didn't race until 12.50. Unfortunately thaey where drawn in the fastest of the heats and despite finishing with a personal best time for the 1000m they where fourth and missed out on th efinal. The A Team contested the final in the afternoon and performed strongly to take out the bronze medal, which was a great result for the club. Bunbury also made two other finals on the day which underlied how strong the club is in the Masters divisions. It was a long day - we arrived just before 7.00am and left after 7.00pm, but the successes of the day made it all worthwhile - despite the scheduling problems that saw most races running very late.  The Regatta has a Siesta programmed each day between 11.00am and 3.00pm so at least this gives a bit of time to catch up. After getting back to Chivasso around 7.30pm the accompanying husbands adjourned to the bar for a very well deserved beer while the rowers showered ; then we all had diner together in he hotel ristorante for a very enjoyable meal with local wines. Tomorrow is day 2 with the quad fours and the Eight - which goes straight to a final giving Carmel her first taste of Masters Final Rowing. Unfortunately there is a weather warning for tonight for strong winds, rain and thunderstorms so it will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings. Wish the crew all the best ...
