Take It Easy

After the adventures of the last few days, today was a welcome change of pace. We had the arranged breakfast a 8.00 am but were the last of the bunch ; and after that we decided to drive to the rowing venue to check it out priot to the serious stuff commencing. Carmel was in high spirits after being very touched by a lovely online posting by her sister Imelda (imeldaevans.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/sisters-as-inspiration/ ) . So we departed and got to the venue with only one episode of getting lost, due to a detour that the SatNav couldn't accommodate. Today was the last day of the kayaking at the course, and it looked a treat. Smooth water ; very hot - it was mid thirties again today - but with good areas of shade albeit with a good population of mossies. Even at a relatively remote location such as this there was free wi-fi, a bar and a ristorante so the crowd was well catered for. the hired rowing sculls were confirmed, and so we left knowing that everything was in place for the practice session on he water at 8.00 am tomorrow morning. We returned to Chivazzo, had a simple lunch of pannini with some cold Beck's beers, then caught the train into Torino for a bit of a look. Our trek took us through what seemed to be the red light district, but we eventually ended up at the Games site fora look , then caught the train home again and enjoyed a pleasant evening of pre-dinner drinks at the hotel before having dinner at the same ristorante ( again !) after finding not much else open on a Monday night : but we did enjoy some lovely pasta and pizza dishes with our customary nebbilio wine. Tomorrow is an early start - breakfast before 7.00 am then down to the course - but it will let the rowers get onto the water and start preparing for the compet
ition ahead.
